Disability support information

We’ve an excellent range of professional support and advice available to disabled applicants and students via our service.

Important Notice for Applicants:

From 6pm on Monday 28th July until 8am on Thursday 14th August, Durham University will be under a results embargo period. As a service, we are unable to answer any specific questions regarding undergraduate applications until after the results embargo lifts at 8am on Thursday 14th August.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience. We will respond as quickly as we can to any enquiries received, from 8am Thursday 14th August onwards.

Please note: if you are a current student, or a postgraduate applicant unaffected by the SQA / JCQ results embargo period, please feel free to email disability-support@durham.ac.uk and we will respond to your enquiry as soon as possible. 

What support we offer at Durham Disability Support

• Information and advice before you arrive at Durham.
• Contact with a Disability Adviser to determine what support is appropriate for your course.
• Development of your individual Disability Support Plan (DSP), which documents your agreed support, and any reasonable adjustments needed.
• Examination access arrangements.
• Liaison or meeting with your department, tutors and college support staff.
• Help and advice about applying for Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) or other appropriate funding.
• A referral for library support, which may include extended loans and access to reserved study room and assistive software in the University library.
• A referral for specialist support and advice from qualified Mental Health Advisors and/or Counselling Service.
• Specialist Study Skills Support (if applicable) for students who aren’t in receipt of external funding.
• Screening for Dyslexia/SpLD and referral for subsidised diagnostic assessment, as appropriate.
• Advice on diagnostic pathways for ADHD/Autism.
• Early Arrival Programme for autistic students.
